Motorola donation ironic on firing day

I read how Motorola has provided $3.5 million in grants to schools to inspire the next generation of technologists. This I find strange because many of these students' parents, neighbors and friends were being fired by Motorola on the same day. It was not a very inspiring day for most of the company's existing technologists.
