Hawks look real Sharp in Calgary
CALGARY, Alberta -- Patrick Sharp's fifth short-handed goal of the season early in the third period sent the Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
The Hawks, also got a short-handed goal from Jacob Dowell.
The Blackhawks are 5-1-1 in their last seven games and 2-1-1 on their six-game road trip, which continues Saturday night in Edmonton.
He was making his NHL debut after being recalled from Rockford earlier this week.
Jarome Iginla scored for Calgary, which had given up 1 short-handed goal in its first 21 games.
The Flames are 3-7-0 in their last 10 games.
Calgary was controlling the puck in the Blackhawks' end when a pass back to the blue line skipped over the stick of Flames defenseman Adrian Aucoin, a former Hawk.
That allowed Sharp to take off in the other direction.
He made a quick move to his forehand before tucking his 11th goal of the season behind Miikka Kiprusoff.
Sharp's 5 short-handed goals equal the total for Ottawa -- the league's next-best team -- in that category.
The Hawks lead the league with 9 short-handed goals this season.
The Flames pressed for much of the third period, outshooting the Hawks 15-2 in the final 20 minutes, but they couldn't get the tying goal past Nikolai Khabibulin.
The Hawks' goalie finished with 30 saves.
Kiprusoff stopped 12 shots for Calgary.
