History museum can be kept open

The DuPage History Museum in Wheaton is planning to close Dec. 1 because of a lack of funding. It'll be a sad day for the county and its citizens if this indeed happens.

I think an easy answer to this cash crisis would be to contact ALL the cities and villages in DuPage Country and ask each to earmark $1,000, $2,000, or more annually for the museum. It is a "DuPage County" museum, after all, and they all have a stake in it. Surely each could budget that small amount of money without detriment to each municipality.

This money, coupled with any from the county board, should be satisfactory to keep it open at least a few days a week.

Also, perhaps someone from the museum board should contact U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam to see if there is any federal money available.

A second option could be if the Wheaton Park District would take over the operation of the museum.

In any case, history is very important and we should do whatever is possible to keep the museum functional and operating.
