The Warren-Newport Public Library District serves a population of approximately 58,000 within a 55-square mile area that covers all or most of Warren and Newport Townships, including Gurnee, Wadsworth, Park City, Wildwood, Grandwood Park, Old Mill Creek, and portions of Grayslake, Millburn, Lake Villa and Waukegan.

Book discussions: The Warren-Newport Public Library will hold several book discussion groups under the leadership of librarian Debbie Hoffman.

Teens Get Active: Teens in sixth grade and up are invited to the Warren-Newport Public Library for a series of activities especially for them.

• Entry forms for the second annual Teen Cookie Bake Off are available now. The Bake Off is scheduled for Dec. 8.

Thanksgiving hours: The Warren-Newport Public Library will close at 5 p.m. today, and remain closed all day Thursday, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Most online resources will be available. The outdoor book drop, near the front entrance of the library, will be open for the convenience of library users to return materials. The drive-up book returns will not be open, however, due to potential overflow.

Friends Raffle: A drawing will be held Dec. 1 for a batch of prizes in the annual fall raffle sponsored by the Friends of the Warren-Newport Public Library. Prizes include the American Girl doll Niki with outfits and accessories, Robosapien robots, an atomic clock, a spa package, an afghan, five pies, hand quilted table runners, and theater tickets. Raffle tickets are $1 each, six for $5, during selected sale times in the lobby, where the prizes are on display.

Library Café: Visitors to the Warren-Newport Public Library can enjoy their coffee and more with the opening of K-Sweets Cafe. The café serves sandwiches, soups, salads, coffee, sweets and paninis. The café is also a free wireless hotspot. The café can be reached at (847) 782-2233.

Monthly gatherings: Several library-sponsored groups meet monthly at the Warren-Newport Public Library in Gurnee and welcome new members. Three book discussion groups cover fiction and non-fiction on scheduled days, evenings and Saturdays. Stitch and Share meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. A local chapter of the Red Hat Society, Lovely and Lively Ladies of the Library, meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday. Finally, the Friends of the Library, meet at 1 p.m. on the fourth Thursday.

Math tutors: The Warren-Newport Public Library hosts free volunteer math tutors who are Motorola professionals from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for drop-in help for fifth-grade through senior high school students.
