Fox Lake to welcome Santa on Friday

Christmas and Santa Claus will be back to Fox Lake beginning on Friday.

The weekend of events will begin with the annual tree-lighting ceremony at Millennium Park at 7 p.m.

Millennium Park is at the corner of Rollins Road and Grand Avenue.

Then, on Saturday, the village of Fox Lake and Korpan's Landing will hold their 51st annual Holiday Parade.

The parade, which kicks off at 11 a.m., will begin at Grant High School at Grand Avenue and Route 59. The parade will leave the school parking lot and head west along Grand to Millennium Park.

Following the parade, there will be a Children's Holiday Party at the Fox Lake Lakefront Park Building, 71 Nippersink.

Hot dogs, soda and holiday stockings will be provided free of charge to children 10 and under.

The children will also have an opportunity to talk to Santa and take a picture.

The event has always been well-attended, said Nancy Rogers, village parks and recreation coordinator.

This year, however, the village will host the Fox Lake Business Decorating Contest.

Businesses are asked to get in the spirit and decorate their facades in honor of the holidays.

Rogers said all businesses are welcome to join in.

Also, the Second Federal Savings & Loan Association of Fox Lake will sponsor a children's coloring contest.

Pictures will be distributed to the local schools, and are available for pick up at the village of Fox Lake, Second Federal Savings & Loan and the Fox Lake Library.

Prizes will be awarded for three different age groups.

Santa will present prizes to the winners at Second Federal at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The winning pictures will remain there on display.

Following the presentation of prizes at the bank, Santa will travel to Grant High School where he will board his float for the parade.

The theme of the parade is "Celebrating 100 Years," in honor of the village's centennial.

A special trophy will be awarded to the entry depicting the history of Fox Lake.
