Ex-Bear Jones helps Jets upset Steelers

As the ball left Mike Nugent's foot and floated through the uprights, the New York Jets stormed the field and celebrated their first win in nearly two months.

"When that final kick went through," quarterback Kellen Clemens said with a smile, "that was one of the best feelings we've had in a while."

With thousands of Pittsburgh fans at Giants Stadium waving their yellow Steelers towels, Nugent kicked a 38-yard field goal 5:03 into overtime to give the Jets an unlikely 19-16 victory Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Jets improved to 2-8 and Thomas Jones was a huge reason why they won as he ran for 117 yards on 30 carries and became the first running back in 35 games to reach 100 yards against the top-ranked Steelers defense.

"Quite simply, we missed tackles," Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said. "We missed more tackles than I've ever seen us miss. That's the story."

Actually, that was only part of it. The Jets defense had its best game -- by far -- by sacking Ben Roethlisberger seven times and holding Willie Parker to 52 yards on 21 carries. New York came in ranked 30th overall on defense, and last against the run.

Eagles 17, Dolphins 7: Backup quarterback A.J. Feeley led a pair of second-half scoring drives in place of injured Donovan McNabb, and Brian Westbrook had a career-best 148 yards rushing, dropping visiting Miami to 0-10.

Colts 13, Chiefs 10: Booed by the crowd after missing his first 2 field goals and the subject of criticism all week after missing a chip shot that would have beaten San Diego a week earlier, Adam Vinatieri made a 24-yard field goal with four seconds left to beat visiting Kansas City (4-6). The win ended Indy's two-game losing streak and kept the Colts (8-2) atop the AFC South.

Rams 13, Niners 9: Marc Bulger shook off another beating to pass for 155 yards and an early touchdown to Torry Holt, and the visiting St. Louis defense was solid until the final seconds against San Francisco.

Texans 23, Saints 10: Andre Johnson had 120 yards receiving and a touchdown, and Mario Williams harassed Drew Brees all day as host Houston (5-5) scored 17 points before halftime and stayed on top with tough defense in the second half against the Saints (4-6), who had 5 turnovers.

Buccaneers 31, Falcons 7: Jeff Garcia threw for 2 touchdowns, Ronde Barber returned a fumble for another score and Tampa Bay's defense completely stifled the Byron Leftwich-led Falcons in Atlanta.

Jaguars 24, Chargers 17: Playing for the first time in nearly a month, David Garrard threw two touchdown passes as host Jacksonville (7-3) beat San Diego (5-5).

Cardinals 35, Bengals 27: Arizona's Antrel Rolle did a cartwheel and a backflip after his second interception return for a touchdown. He still had one more play and one more celebration left.

He returned interceptions 55 and 54 yards for touchdowns. Rolle finished it off with his third interception in the closing minutes. He ran Carson Palmer's career-high fourth interception back 71 yards, but the apparent touchdown was nullified by a blocking penalty on the return.

Rolle did a chest dive in the end zone anyway to finish off his career day against host Cincinnati (3-7).
