MCC volleyball team ousted at nationals
The McHenry County College volleyball season ended in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the NJCAA Division II Nationals Friday night. The Scots (40-9) were defeated in the consolation semifinals by Longview CC of Missouri (39-8).
The taller and deeper LCC Lakers took care of MCC in three straight games, 30-22, 30-25, 30-25 as the Scots fell victim to a team that successfully dug the Scots' best attacks while also out-serving McHenry.
For first-year coach Chas Kennedy, a former assistant at St. Edward, the year was quite successful overall as MCC recorded a 40-win season while playing one of the most demanding schedules in the country.
This was the third consecutive year that MCC won the NJCAA District B championship and qualified for the national tournament. McHenry County achieved another milestone in recording national volleyball tournament trips in four of the past five seasons.
