Teachers manage our greatest asset

I have to agree with Janet Lundeburg of Schaumburg (Fence Post, Nov. 1). Because of the publicity surrounding the several school districts who have been engaged in salary negotiations it seems teachers are getting bad publicity and are being characterized as a bunch of money-hungry people. As compared to some other professions, it's very easy to think teachers "have it made." They go home after school, usually around 3:00 or 3:30, have the summers off and most importantly are not held accountable for budgets, profits and other business-world entrapments, including asset management.

But wait, don't they manage the greatest asset of out country: the education of our future leaders! I think that's a mighty tall order. Let's support our teachers now and everyday. We have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
