Briefs: Valet parking approved
Valet parking for two downtown Libertyville restaurants was approved Tuesday. Village trustees agreed to a license for Firkin Restaurant and The Tavern, 515-519 N. Milwaukee Ave., to use a portion of the village lot on the southeast corner of Lake Street and Brainerd Avenue from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The service is scheduled to begin this weekend.
Register for basketball
Anyone seeking to play in the Wauconda Park District's youth basketball leagues may begin registering. Leagues will begin playing the week of Jan. 7. Sign up by Dec. 28 and get an early bird discount of $10 off the registration fee. Leagues are for all children in grades 1 through 6, and volunteer coaches are still needed. Comedy group at school
The ComedySportz improvisational comedy group will perform Jan. 26 at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. The show, set to begin at 7:30 p.m., pits two teams of comedic actors against each other. Stamp convention Friday
The 121st edition as the Annual Exhibition of the Chicago Philatelic Society will run Friday through Sunday at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest, 3400 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights. Admission and parking are free. Known as the Chicagopex 2007 Postage Stamp Show, the show will feature about 5,300 pages of stamp exhibits and more than 75 dealers, catering to virtually every philatelic interest imaginable. Chicagopex will host the annual National Conventions of six philatelic societies, covering philatelic interests of much of Central and Eastern Europe.
