Briefs: Businesswomen's lunch

Nosh, 211 James St., Geneva, will be the setting for the Geneva Women in Business luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. "How to Love Networking for Women Entrepreneurs" will be led by Gail Sussman-Miller. Clerk's holiday hours:

In observance of Thanksgiving, the Kane County clerk's office will close at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. It will remain closed Nov. 22 and 23, reopening at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 26 to resume normal business hours. The clerk's office is at 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

Singers to lead parade:

The St. Charles Singers will be grand marshals of this year's Electric Christmas Parade, the Downtown St. Charles Partnership announced. Directed by founder Jeffrey Hunt, the choir is an award-winning mix of 34 voices, which have toured around the globe and recorded three compact discs. As grand marshals, the Singers will be featured performing holiday music on the first float in the Nov. 24 parade along Main Street in St. Charles. The parade, put on annually by the partnership, steps off at 5:30 p.m. and is expected to include about 80 entries.

New W. Chicago contest

West Chicago has started a new essay contest that challenges elementary-age children to write about their favorite aspects of the city. Essays will be judged in three age categories; they must be received at city hall, 475 Main St., by 5 p.m. Nov. 26. Winners, who will be announced later that week, will be invited to help light the city holiday tree during the annual Frosty Fest on Dec. 1. The essays also will be featured at www.westchigago.org. Christmas décor contest

The North Aurora Lions Club will conduct a Christmas home decoration contest for residents. Categories are festive, religious and neighborhood. Entry and judging forms are available at Messenger Public Library, Old Second National Bank, Valley Community Bank, the village hall and Woodman's Market. Entries are due Nov. 30. Entrants' addresses might be published in newspapers and judged by residents of North Aurora. Awards of $150, $100 and $50 will be given. Call Sarah Prah at (630) 745-0389.
