Amusing rhetoric on both sides
I was very amused at the battle over SCHIP with the rhetoric on both sides. The Bush Republicans claimed that the $35 billion expansion was just too big, while the bi-partisan supporters claimed it was paid for. The veto was upheld, and the Democrats get their campaign issue.
While the Bush Republicans are still crowing about saving the taxpayers money, the president then goes and asks for an additional $42 billion in war money. If I'm opposed to spending $7 billion a year (at most) on children's health, I can't see how I could justify sending $42 billion to Iraq that would contribute to the deficit.
