Conant variety show scheduled
Conant High School's variety show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the auditorium. "After House at the Diner" will deliver a variety of vocal, dance and instrumental acts. Tickets are $6. For details, call Scott Altergott at (847) 755-3716.
Learn to appeal your assessment
The Schaumburg Township Assessor's Office will hold a seminar on how to appeal your property assessment at 7 p.m. Thursday at Schaumburg Township Hall, 1 Illinois Blvd. in Hoffman Estates. For details, call the assessor's office at (847) 884-0030.
Schaumburg Township Assessor John Lawson said his office has been fielding questions from taxpayers and taxing bodies for several months regarding the lateness of the state senate-approved property tax plan.
Lawson reported that his office now can begin assisting taxpayers to appeal their new assessments once they're mailed out.
Talks about online safety at Harper
Harper College will hold two free programs designed to help people stay safe on social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook and Internet chat rooms.
"How to Protect Yourself Online: From Free Speech to Facebook," with C.L. Lindsay, discusses how MySpace or Facebook pages can come back to haunt you. It's at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Room E107, Building E, and at 7 p.m. in the Building J Theatre.
"Protecting the People We Love from Online Predators," will discuss the exploitation of children via the Internet at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Room A238, Building A and at 7 p.m. in Building J.
