Elk Grove teen in critical after crash

The teen critically injured in a fatal crash in Kane County Friday has been identified as Kevin McKenna of Elk Grove Village.

The car accident at Meredith Road and Route 38 near Elburn killed Carrie E. Hilliker, 18, of Bradley, Ill., in Kankakee County. Authorities said she was driving the car.

The 19-year-old McKenna remains in critical condition Saturday at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, a hospital representative said.

Kane County sheriff's police reported Hilliker was driving north on Meredith Road at about 5:30 p.m. Friday when her car was struck by a Mitsubishi and then a tractor-trailer truck which were both traveling east on Route 38. The drivers of the truck and the Mitsubishi were both treated and released at the scene.

Hilliker had been flown by helicopter to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Police are still investigating. Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

The Virgil Township intersection has been the site of other accidents in recent months.

Vaughn Olson, a St. Charles police officer, died of injuries after being involved in a crash at the intersection in July.

Three others were injured in the accident, including Michael Griesbaum, another St. Charles officer, who was driving a minivan west on Route 38. Olson was a passenger.

The intersection is controlled by stop signs for north and south traveling traffic on Meredith Road, but there are no stop signs on Route 38.
