Man denies 2nd car theft in 2 weeks

Once was apparently not enough for Billedo Robles, prosecutors say.

The 27-year-old Wauconda man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges he stole a car in that village less than a week after he was released from jail on similar charges.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said Robles was arrested Sept. 14 after a man reported his 1993 Cadillac had been stolen from in front of a fast-food restaurant.

Police found it about 30 minutes later crashed into a field near Ivanhoe Road and Route 176, Foy said, and a man witnesses described running away from the crash turned out to be Robles when he was caught about one-half mile away.

On Sept. 7, a 1997 Saturn was stolen from a gas station in the village after its owner left it unattended.

Robles called the police the following day, Foy said, and told them he had the car and had driven it to Waukegan to buy drugs.

Robles surrendered at the police station and directed police to the vehicle that was parked near his home at 26781 Morey Way.

A judge who reviewed the first case against Robles allowed him to get out of jail on a signature bond, but he has been held since his second arrest on $50,000 bond.

He faces up to seven years in prison in each case and Foy said any sentences handed out would have to be served consecutively.

Circuit Judge George Bridges scheduled a trial for Dec. 3 and ordered Robles to appear in court again Nov. 16.
