Tri-Cities Veteran's Day activities

Here is a look at Veterans Day events in the Tri-Cities area:

Batavia

Several Batavia veterans groups will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Batavia VFW, 645 S. River St. Events will include a National Guard speaker, music, honor guard and 21-gun salute.

Elburn

A Veterans Day observance remembering veterans who have died will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday in front of American Legion Post 630, 112 N. Main St., Elburn. A parade to the Veterans Memorial, 301 E. North St., follows. There will be a ceremony in front of the memorial.

Geneva

The Color Guard and Rifle Squad from Fox River-Geneva American Legion Post 75 will come to attention at 11 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of State and Third streets to honor and salute all veterans, living and deceased, from all American wars. Post members are requested to attend in uniform or wear a Legion cap. All other veterans wishing to participate are invited to join the Color Guard in the ceremony.

Also, from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 17, post members will be at various locations in Geneva collecting donations for the annual Gifts to The Yanks Who Gave day. For the past 60 years The American Legion has been dedicated to the "Tradition of Support" for hospitalized Illinois veterans. This program ensures that every hospitalized war veteran in Illinois is remembered at Christmas with a gift of appreciation for their service and sacrifice.

North Aurora

The village of North Aurora, in conjunction with the Veterans Memorial Committee, will conduct the dedication at 1 p.m. Sunday for the North Aurora Veterans Memorial. The site is at the intersection of Willow Way and Farview Drive, about 500 feet south of the Oak Street/Willow Way intersection, and adjacent to the Ed Kelley Memorial Park.

St. Charles

In St. Charles, several Veterans Day concerts and ceremonies are planned.

• Today, students will gather the flag pole at 8:30 a.m. at Thompson Middle School, 705 W. Main St., to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" and hear special performances by the eighth-grade band, orchestra and choir.

• Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5036 will have a public ceremony at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the Freedom Shrine, just north of the police department, 2 State Ave.

Later Sunday, veteran chart-topper Patti Page will perform a Veterans Day Tribute concert at 3 p.m. at the Arcada Theater, 105 E. Main St. Tickets start at $29.

• On Monday, St. Charles North High School, 255 Red Gate Road, will present a Veterans Celebration concert featuring patriotic music. Admission for the 7:30 p.m. show is free for veterans, $3 for students and seniors, and $5 for adults. Concert-goers are being asked to bring non-perishable food items and toiletries for homeless shelters serving veterans.

Sugar Grove

The community is invited to Veterans Day observances from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Aurora Sportsmen's Club, 475 Bliss Road in Sugar Grove. The drill team will present colors at 10 a.m. There will displays of military vehicles, military firearms and ammunition. Lunch will be served to veterans. There is no cost to attend.
