Veterans Day events planned
Parade: The Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, at the Veterans Memorial Band Shell in Lions Park, 411 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect. The procession will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Lions Park recreation center and will march to the band shell where a ceremony will be held.
Elk Grove VFW program: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9284, 400 E. Devon, Elk Grove Village, will hold its Veterans Day program at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. A color guard and wreath presentation ceremony will be followed by a commemorative firing of weapons. A list of those who have died will be read. The luncheon, open to all veterans, is at noon. Des Plaines VFW program: The veterans of Des Plaines will hold their Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion, on Lee Street between Howard and Touhy. Local and state officials will be on hand as well as The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2992; American Legion Post 36; Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 311, Bugles Across America, Glengael Pipe Band and members of the Willows Academy Choir. Planners needed for 2008 Relay
Volunteers are needed to help plan the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Mount Prospect for 2008. A committee meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Prospect High School to discuss planning, fundraising and team recruitment efforts currently under way for the event. Enter at Door 4 and watch for signs directing you to the meeting room.
Individuals are needed to help organize and recruit teams, secure community support, coordinate event logistics, obtain refreshments and prizes, help with publicity and plan entertainment activities. Volunteers do not need to be Mount Prospect residents.
Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings the community together in the fight against cancer. Call (847) 368-1166.
See neighborhood lights via trolley
Village Trolley and Tours will offer one-hour holiday light tours in the Elk Grove Village area during December. Local tours are available for groups up to 30 passengers starting at $250 per hour Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The tours will feature holiday music in the decorated, heated, green and red Village Trolley while viewing a variety of decorated neighborhoods.
