Shop, eat chocolate at county museum
Sip champagne and enjoy chocolates while shopping for gifts at Chocolate, Champagne and Shopping from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake County Discovery Museum near Wauconda.
Items for sale will include gourmet kitchen tools, candles, jewelry, confections, soaps, stationery, spa products, baskets, home decor and other specialty items. A complete vendor list is available online at www.lcfpd.org/chocolate.
Also during the event, purse artist Jody Wachman will present a trunk show and sale of her custom-made purses.
Shoppers can save 20 percent on all merchandise in the museum store. The store features toys, handmade crafts, jewelry, books, postcard-related gifts, and merchandise from the current exhibition, "Pocketbook Anthropology: A Treasure of Handbags." A portion of the exhibition merchandise is Fair Trade certified or made with recycled or reclaimed materials.
Cost to attend the event is $10 per person in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the museum or online at www.lcfpd.org. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Lake County Discovery Museum. Attendees must be 18 years or older.

Fundraiser tonight for Brainerd
The Libertyville Junior Women's Club will hold a fundraiser to benefit the Brainerd building and Jackson gym from 6:30 p.m. to midnight tonight at Independence Grove.
The buildings at Brainerd and Park Avenues were used as a high school for decades. Village officials have established a foundation to raise funds to convert the site to a community center. For more information, visit www.brainerdcenter.org.
Local veterans sought for honor
Lakes Community High School is seeking local veterans to honor during an all-day Veterans Day observance on Monday.
The day is scheduled to begin with a breakfast in the cafeteria at 8 a.m. where State Rep. JoAnn Osmond will be giving an address. A school assembly will follow at 9 a.m.
During the late morning and afternoon hours, the visiting veterans will be invited to participate in class activities.

Prairie Crossing tabs leadership
Board members at Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake recently picked who will be the top leaders as officers.
Dennis Munk was tabbed by his peers to be Prairie Crossing Charter School's president. Steve Barg will serve as vice president for the 2007-08 academic year.
Stepping into the role of board treasurer will be Geoff Deigan. Wendy Richter landed the job of school board secretary.
Children living within the Woodland Elementary District 50 and Fremont Elementary District 79 boundaries are eligible to attend Prairie Crossing, an environmentally focused public school. Parents from outside Woodland and Fremont may pay out-of-area tuition to send their children to Prairie Crossing.
