Briefs: VFW fined for violation
St. Charles Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5036 agreed Tuesday to pay $1,000 in fines and fees for its first local liquor ordinance violation in more than 50 years. The establishment, 119 N. Third St., was cited in August for selling alcohol to a teenager in a police compliance check. Since then, "We have changed our policy, and we just plan on this never happening again," club director Amy Jorgensen said. Meanwhile, a hearing for a separate citation involving Ray's Evergreen Tavern, 1400 W. Main St., was postponed until December.
Veterans Day rite
The seventh-graders at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the school, 1501 S. Raddant Road. The public is invited.
St. Charles chamber lunch
Reservations are due by noon Friday for the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Formula for Success luncheon Tuesday at Prairie Landing Golf Club, 2325 Longest Drive, West Chicago. Radiography at ECC
Those interested in enrolling in Elgin Community Col-lege's new radiography pro-gram for a health-care career using X-ray equipment are encouraged to attend an information session from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday detailing the program's requirements. Applications are due Dec. 31 for classes beginning in May. The meeting will be in the Alumni Room of the Student Resource Center on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The sessions are free, but reservations are encouraged.
Geneva history talk
The Geneva History Center's next Brown Bag Lunch program at noon Tuesday is "Lesser Known History of Geneva 1900-1950," presented by Mick Zollers. He researched and indexed the Geneva Republican newspapers covering 1900 to 1950. Bring your lunch. Beverages and cookies will be provided. Admission is $2 for members and $3 for nonmembers.
