Briefs: School chief search starts
U-46 Elgin Area School District U-46 will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. in district headquarters, 355. E. Chicago St., Elgin. The purpose of the meeting is to interview superintendent search firms, which will be charged with finding a replacement for outgoing Superintendent Connie Neale. All interviews will be conducted in public.
Kids salute Veterans Day
Dundee-Carpentersville American Legion Post 679 will join students from Carpentersville's Parkview Elementary School to celebrate Veterans Day at 1 p.m. Thursday in Carpenter Park. Illinois Army National Guard Col. Steven Huber will speak and the rifle guard from Elgin American Legion Post 57 will attend. Bingo fundraiser in Huntley
The Chicago Thunder Football Club is bringing weekly bingo games to Huntley. Opening night will be at 7 today at the Huntley American Legion Hall, 11712 Coral St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The games will raise money for Friends for Patsy, a nonprofit organization that helps families of children with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare pediatric bone cancer.
Village names new planner
Resident Joe DeMay has joined the Lake in the Hills planning and zoning commission. The village board appointed DeMay to the position last week. As a commission member, DeMay will review village applications regarding variances, zoning amendments, conditional use permits, planned developments and appeals. DeMay also has served on the Business Relations Committee and Economic Development Committee. His term on the planning and zoning commission ends April 30.
S. Elgin renews strays deal
South Elgin on Monday extended its agreement with Anderson Animal Shelter to act as the town's dog pound for two more years. Anderson now charges the village $25 more for every dog brought to the shelter for a total of $275. On Nov. 1, 2008, that fee will go up to $302.50. The village's deal expired on Oct. 31. The renewal runs through Oct. 31, 2009.
