Kids, Teen Triathlon this Saturday
On Saturday, the South Barrington Park District holds its annual Kids and Teens Triathlon at the South Barrington Community Center, 3 Tennis Club Lane, beginning at 1 p.m. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. today.
Kids ages 8-10 as of Sept. 1 will swim in the indoor pool for 100 yards, bike on stationary recumbent bikes for two miles, and run the indoor running track for one mile.
Teens ages 11-13 as of Sept. 1 will swim in the indoor pool for 200 yards, bike on stationary recumbent bikes for three miles, and run the indoor track for 1½ miles. Participants can register as individuals and complete all three events by themselves, or create a team of three athletes, each completing a separate leg of the event.
The first 100 participants receive a goodie bag including one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased the day of the event to win one of many prizes, including an iPod, Schaumburg Flyers Baseball tickets courtesy of the Alexian Brothers Foundation, season passes to Chicago Slaughter football, sports equipment, park district classes, and a free birthday party. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category -- swim, bike, run and overall -- in each of the age categories.
Admission is $25 per athlete, or $60 per team of three. Register at the South Barrington Community Center, or online at sbpd.net. For more information, contact special events coordinator Wendy Rodrigo at (847) 381-7515 or wrodrigo@sbpd.net.
