Officials: Suspect related to rapist

The Lake County sheriff's office confirmed today a man charged with trying to rape a woman on the Millennium Trail in Wauconda is the half-brother of convicted rapist Christopher Hanson.

Officials with the sheriff's office said today they had determined Robert J. Evans, 28, is related to Hanson, who is serving life in prison for a brutal attack on a female jogger in Libertyville in 2005.

Police said on Friday Evans admitted to a previous attack on a 50-year-old woman near Fairfield and Chardon roads less than a month ago.

Evans, a Round Lake Beach resident, is a registered sex offender and was convicted in 1999 of the aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 16-year-old.

The sheriff's office said Evans is being held in lieu of $1 million bond in connection with the Millennium Trail incident.

Investigators plan to meet with the state's attorney's office next week to review case and determine charges in the Chardon Road case.
