Harper holds game development talk
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Harper College hosts a free seminar on the growing video game industry at the Harper Professional Center, 650 E. Higgins Road, Suite 9S, Schaumburg.

'First Saturday' art debuts in Palatine
The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council hosts a public reception for local artists from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Gumbo A Go Go, 43 N. Bothwell St., Palatine.
The reception will launch the Council's new season of "First Saturday" art exhibition programs in the Palatine community. Starting in November, the first Saturday of each month will provide an opportunity for the community to meet and greet local artists and view their works. Afterward, the works will be on display in the restaurant for the entire month.
Admission is free, and light refreshments will be provided. November's exhibit will feature paintings by artist Jan Pennor-Drake. In addition, photos from Palatine's sister city, Fontenay, France, will be on display.

Inverness lunch and fair coming up
The Inverness Women's Club holds its annual holiday fair and luncheon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Concorde Banquet Center, 20922 N. Rand Road, Kildeer. Proceeds will benefit local charities.
This year's fair features 45 booths for shopping, a bake sale, baskets, raffles and more. Admission is free. The cost for the luncheon is $40, and reservations are required.
