Baseball/softball

Registration: Lake Villa Township Baseball & Softball is accepting registrations for the 2008 season. The program is open to boys and girls ages 5 through 16 from Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Antioch, Round Lake and surrounding communities.

Walk-in registration will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 1 and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 3 at the LVTB Park Concession Stand, ¼ mile west of Deep Lake Road on Grass Lake Road. For information, or to have a registration form mailed to you, call (847) 356-7854.

Registration forms can be downloaded from the Web site at www.LVTB.org or at the following locations.

• Lake Villa Township Offices, 37908 N. Fairfield Road, Lake Villa.

• Lake Villa Village Hall, 65 Cedar Ave., Lake Villa.

• Lake Villa Public Library, 1001 E. Grand Ave., Lake Villa.

• Village of Lindenhurst, 2301 E. Sand Lake Road, Lindenhurst.

To register online, access the link and step-by-step instructions at www.LVTB.org. Payments can be made via credit card or by mailing a check to LVTB, PO Box 123, Lake Villa.

The number of players in the league will be limited. A $10 late fee will be charged to registrations received after Dec. 31 (no late fee for 15- and 16-year-olds). Players will not be officially registered or placed on a team until payment is received.

Basketball

Corsairs tryouts: The Junior Corsairs Basketball Program offers an opportunity for sixth to eighth grade boys to compete against various teams from Lake and Cook County. Tryout dates and times for all levels are 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 8, noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 and 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 15. Practices and home games will be held at Carmel High School.

The teams will play approximately 40 games between November and March. Anyone interested, call Jon Baffico at (847) 388-3402 or e-mail jbaffico@carmelhs.org.

Softball

One-day clinic: Fastball USA will host a one-day softball clinic Nov. 17 for coaches and players at 137 Diversey, Elmhurst. The UIC Flames coaching staff, Tom Grey, Sarah O'Malley and Allison Aguilar, along with UIC Flames players will be on hand. The division I softball program will hold a coaches clinic from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and a players clinic from noon to 3 p.m. The clinic will cover the fundamentals of softball in several skill areas including infield and outfield defensive, plus offensive skills of hitting, bunting and slapping.

Volleyball

Sky High Girls Tryouts: Sky High Girls Volleyball tryouts will be held at the following times and locations.

• 15-year-olds -- Next tryout, 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 4; final tryout, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at Sky High Athletic Center, Crystal Lake.

• 16-year-olds -- Next tryout, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 4, final tryout, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at Sky High Athletic Center, Crystal Lake.

• 16-/15-year-olds --Next tryout, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 4; final tryout, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center, Hoffman Estates.

• 18/17-year-olds -- Next tryout, 4:30 to 6 p.m., Nov. 4; final tryout, 3 to 4:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center, Hoffman Estates.

• Note -- The 18-/17-year-old regional tryout will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Sky High Athletic Center, Crystal Lake.
