Guilty plea after 11 years of sex assaults

A 25-year-old Mount Prospect man faces up to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.

Ronald Sampson was accused of molesting a female relative over an 11-year period from 1995 to 2006. The victim was 6 years old when the abuse began and Sampson was 14, prosecutors say.

Sampson, of 413 E. Lincoln St., was arrested in July 2006 after prosecutors said it was discovered he had impregnated the girl. They also said Sampson gave verbal and written confessions to Mount Prospect police.

Each count of predatory criminal sexual assault carries a minimum of six years in prison and a maximum of 30.

Seventy-five more counts of criminal sexual abuse and other charges were dropped in exchange for Sampson's guilty plea.

Cook County Judge John Scotillo said the counts have to be served consecutively, so in effect Sampson faces 12 to 60 years in prison.

He remains free on $250,000 bond, of which he posted 10 percent.

Sampson is to appear in court Dec. 27 for sentencing.
