Barrington's beat goes on
Barrington senior swimmers Alexa Hamilton, Sam Simon and Sara Fogle were probably just starting pre-school.
Juniors Chelsea Simon, Kim Steelman and Amy Madden were likely keeping busy by playing with their toys and other kids in the neighborhood.
Sophomores Victoria Waring and Emily Fogle were probably glued to the TV set watching Sesame Street.
And freshman Anne Jacobsen wasn't even born when the Fillies' winning streak of Mid-Suburban League titles began.
With 316 points, the Fillies easily won their 16th consecutive conference championship Saturday afternoon at Barrington High School.
"We just try to swim faster and dive better," said Fillies coach Jim Bart. "We did a pretty good job."
That was the understatement of the day.
The Fillies won nine of 11n swimming events.
MSL East Division champion Hersey won two events, Heidi Johnson in diving Friday night and Nicole Gill in the 100 yard butterfly.
Gill also set the school record in the 200 IM by finishing second (2:15.23) to Alexa Hamilton (2:09.22).
The only other team to finish on top in any event was Fremd's Nika Lauraitis in the 100 free.
"They swam great," said Fremd coach Andy Larson, whose team placed second with 214 points. "We had some errors. We have to go back to the drawing board and fix them. But it's nothing big. They did fantastic."
Hersey earned 174 points to place third.
"We just wanted to come here and swim well and that's what we did," said Huskies coach Rob Lindgren. "Everyone here seems to have had a good meet. We had a lot of season and career bests. Our girls, from diving to the 400 free relay, did very well."
In fourth place was Schaumburg (151).
"I'm real pleased with what we did," said Saxons coach Tim Kasper. "We ended up fourth. We're not rested and we swam fast. We had a lot of season bests. We had a good meet all the way up and down."
Prospect (150), Rolling Meadows (82), Wheeling (81), Conant (75), Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Hoffman Estates and Elk Grove rounded out the field.
