Church to sponsor Community Service Day

Saturday is National Make A Difference Day.

Members of First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake are volunteering with nine community agencies to help make a difference on that day. It is the church's fourth Community Service Day.

FCC has scheduled more than a dozen missions throughout the county with Turning Point, Pioneer Center, National Alliance for Mental Illness, Faith in Action, Food Pantry, the Midwest Center for Children's Development and Home of the Sparrow and Child Advocacy Center.

Volunteer opportunities range from yard and facility cleanup to painting walls and moving hay.

"I see volunteering as a contribution I can make with my life," said Trudy Medendorp, an FCC member and one of the leaders of Community Service Day.

Community Service Day occurs twice a year at First Congregational Church. Started in spring 2006, this outreach program is held every April and October.

In the first year, the two combined Community Service Days encompassed several hundred volunteers and impacted thousands of people in the community.
