Briefs: Students win Merit honors
Four Huntley High School students have been named Commended Students in the 2008 Nation al Merit Scholarship Program. Priyanvada Deshpande, Justin Engle, Derek Reinhold and Jessica Runge each will receive a Letter of Commendation from the high school and the National Merit Scholarship Corp., the nonprofit organization that runs the program. Commended Students are in the top 5 percent of the more than 1.4 million high school seniors who took the qualifying test last year.
Give blood, get bonus
Lake in the Hills Rotary Club will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate, Lake in the Hills. Those who donate blood will receive a certificate for a free pint of beer or root beer at Govnor's Public House, 220 N Randall Road, Lake in the Hills.
Child Advocacy benefit
A Halloween party to benefit the Kane County Child Advocacy Center will be held Tuesday at the Fox Valley Golf & Country Club. The "Growing Miracles Dinner" will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The $50 per person ticket includes hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Call Susan Enger at (630) 208œ5159.
