Sugar Grove time capsule has room for your items
Do you have a photo or other memorabilia that reflects Sugar Grove's 50-year history as a village?
You can still make a contribution to the time capsule.
Items from residents or businesses must be at the village hall by Nov. 16. The 50th anniversary time capsule will be officially sealed at the Dec. 18 village board meeting.
According to village clerk Cindy Welsch, items that are appropriate include family photos, business memorabilia, news clippings (personal or business) information on your involvement in the community, and children's hand and/or footprints.
Or, just jot down your memories of Sugar Grove on a piece of paper.
Items that have been gathered include the book "Sin-Qua-Sip, A History of Sugar Grove Township, Kane County, Illinois" by Patsy Mighell Paxton; a Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce information folder; a post card with a cancellation stamp that was made for the 50th anniversary celebration; newspapers with articles featuring the village and Sugar Grove caps, T-shirts and pens.
Official documents such as maps and annual reports are also to be included.
The village board and staff have submitted letters that are testimonies of their own experiences, reflections and hope for the future.
Sugar Grove was incorporated as a village in April 1957. The village celebrated with a weekend of games, music, food, and dance and hula hoop contests in September.
You can mail your items to Cindy Welsch, Sugar Grove Municipal Center, 10 Municipal Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554.

No ghosts or goblins
Faith Assembly Church of Elburn is hosting wild west fall family fest from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31 as a Halloween alternative, and to just have a great time. The church is on Keslinger Road one mile west of Route 47.
It's the first time the church has hosted a fall festival.
"The focus is to provide a safe celebration for the whole family," said the Rev. Chuck Jones, children's pastor. "It's going to be blast. We'll have free hot dogs and there will be a coffee area for adults."
During the first hour, there will be games and candy for Christian children who don't celebrate Halloween, according to Jones.
The event also includes pony rides, a bonfire, cowboy photos, games, face painting, a bounce house and hay rides. There will also be bungee jumping on level ground on inflatable lanes.
Jones said the fest will be held indoors if the weather is bad. Children can ride ponies under an awning, but hay rides might have to be canceled.
Jones and his wife moved to Elburn in April from Granite City.
