Prairie Ridge 55, Johnsburg 28
There wasn't any surprise in the game plans of the two teams that were undefeated in the Fox Valley Fox Division Friday in Crystal Lake. Prairie Ridge had gotten where it was by running the ball, and Johnsburg had gotten where it was by passing it, and that's exactly how it went down.
Although Johnsburg knew the run was coming, it couldn't stop it resulting in a Prairie Ridge win 52-28, giving the Wolves their first undefeated regular season in school history to go along with the Fox Division championship.
"It feels great. It's something we have wanted to do here that nobody has done yet," said PR running back Sam Campbell. "We get that on a banner now and that is something we can come back years later and see."
Campbell rushed for 2 touchdowns in the first half, including a 49-yarder, but only had 9 carries. Although Campbell was effective on the carries, it was PR's Kevin Keener who was the workhorse on the field. Keener was also dominant rushing and also added 2 first-half touchdowns.
"Our line stepped up big time," Keener said. "We knew Johnsburg would be keying on (Campbell), so it left holes me to run."
PR (9-0, 5-0) went up 28-7 in the second quarter, but Johnsburg (5-4, 4-1) didn't lie down.
The Skyhawks scored on their last two offensive possessions of the half, first on a Jerad Grundy 6-yard pass to Brad Potts, and later Grundy connected with C.J. Fiedorowicz for 15 yards to bring the Skyhawks within a touchdown at halftime.
It was all PR in the second half though, and Campbell was able to find the end zone twice more to give him 4 TDs in the game allowing the Wolves to run away with a 52-28 victory.
"It means a lot getting the conference championship and having a 9-0 season. We've never done that here before and it's a great accomplishment," said PR coach Chris Schremp. "This is a great group of guys here, and great seniors. I'll never forget these guys."
