Barrington 49, Schaumburg 46

Barrington kept its slim playoff hopes alive and ended Schaumburg's football season with a wild 49-46 Mid-Suburban West victory Friday at Gary Scholz Stadium.

The Broncos (5-4, 2-3) must now wait until after today's games are complete to find out if they have enough playoff points to make it into the 8A playoff bracket.

Quarterback Cody Seeger and halfback Sam Ojuri, both juniors, gave the seniors a game to remember, even if they don't play next week.

Ojuri gained 217 yards on 21 carries, scoring touchdowns from 64, 44 and 11 yards. He finished the regular season 942 yards. Seeger rushed for 152 yards on 21 carries, scoring on a 35-yard run in the first quarter and later completing scoring passes of 32 and 59 yards.

"We wanted to send the seniors out the right way," Ojuri said. "We don't know about the playoffs. It was a dogfight, a real shootout."

"We had to come out and get the win," Seeger said. "At least we have a chance. We knew it would be a high scoring game."

Barrington coach Joe Sanchez was reminded of another high-scoring Barrington Schaumburg game a decade ago.

"This game reminded me of the 1997 game with Kurt Kittner (Schaumburg) and Dan Pohlman (Barrington)," Sanchez said. "I think it was 35-28.

"It's a credit to the kids that they found a way to win," Sanchez said. "(Schaumburg) can score in a heartbeat."

The Saxons finish at 4-5, 2-3 in the West, despite a super-human effort by running back Mick Trimarco, who carried 25 times for 245 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, when the teams combined for 47 points.

Trimarco, who finished the season with 1,109 rushing yards, also had what would have been a 70-yard touchdown on a screen pass called back with a holding penalty. Quarterback Cody Logsdon, whose availability was in doubt after an Achilles tendon injury last week, completed 17 of 20 passes for 218 yards and 1 touchdown. He finished the game completing 12 in a row.

His lone interception resulted in a 31-yard return for a touchdown by Charlie Kocmond in the second quarter.

In one stretch in the fourth quarter, the teams scored 33 points in a span of less than six minutes.

"Trimarco showed a ton of heart," Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling said. "Those two kids are what high school football is all about.

"We knew it was a playoff game for us, and Barrington played their tails off," Stilling said.

"We saw two teams fighting to keep their season from ending," Sanchez said. "I'm happy our kids were on the long end of it.

"I don't know what's gonna happen," he said. "We'll be on pins and needles until (tonight). Hopefully, we'll get some help."
