Glendale Heights doubles storage at golf course
The Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights soon will have additional storage.
Village board members Thursday night agreed the maintenance building's storage room was not adequate and approved a bid of $232,000 to double the structure's size. With a fire sprinkler, the project should run the village about $250,000.
Director of Golf Course Operations Keith Knautz said the addition would maintain standards at the golf course.
"Due to the fact that we have more equipment than fits under the building, we're trying to protect the equipment we have," he said. "The major benefit that it'll allow us is give us proper storage for our equipment and it'll also allow our mechanics to spread out."
Officials plan to get the project started as soon as possible, and hope the work will be completed before winter.
The addition to the building is very basic, though there will be room for more expansion in the future, said Holly Knoll, administrative services manager for the village.
"We're still hoping that we can get this project up and going this fall, and get it done before the snow hits," Knautz said. "If it doesn't happen then, we'll get it done as soon as we can."
Golf course officials said for the past several years, plans for the maintenance building addition have always been removed from preliminary budgets.
"The conditions have never been right," Knautz said. "But at this point, we need to get it done."
The current maintenance building was built in 1991, and the golf course was built in 1987. This year, the golf course is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
