Urge Roskam to override Bush veto

If you live in the 6th Congressional District, and Peter Roskam is your represenative in the U.S. House, please take the time to call his office or e-mail him regarding H.R, 976, a bill to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), and for other purposes.

On Sept. 25, Roskam voted "nay" to the reauthorization of the SCHIP. This doesn't surprise anyone who canvassed in 2006 for Tammy Duckworth. We were constantly met with the comment, "She doesn't have any experience." Our standard reply was, "How much experience does it take to be a rubber-stamp for the administration?" Roskam has voted with the Bush administration on every important issue. Now Rep. Roskam has the opportunity to vote to override Bush's veto of the bipartisan SCHIP bill. Yes, bipartisan (approved 265-159 in the House)! Isn't a bipartisan government our main objective? The House needs 25 Republicans to switch their votes from "nay" to "aye" in order to override the president's veto. The override vote may be taken today. Peter Roskam needs to hear from his constituency that we want him to be among those Republicans.
