Police investigate possible PTA theft
Police are investigating whether a former Chesak-Martin PTA officer stole an undetermined amount of money from the PTA's bank account.
The PTA, which includes parents of children at Chesak and Martin elementary schools, discovered the possible theft last week and filed a report with the Lake in the Hills police on Oct. 10, police said.
Police did not comment on why a former PTA officer is suspected of taking the money but confirmed that the individual is a person of interest.
"We're looking at that person right now," Sgt. Mark Mogan said.
No charges have been filed in connection with the possible theft, police said.
Police said they did not know how much money, if any, is missing from the account.
The Chesak-Martin PTA plans to launch a full audit of its records to determine if the money was stolen. The results of this audit will be turned over to police.
The PTA has asked the Illinois PTA to oversee the two bank accounts while the police investigation and audit are taking place.
The Chesak-Martin PTA maintains its accounts independent from Huntley Unit District 158 and the two elementary schools.
"It's obviously very concerning, but it looks like they're handling it well," Superintendent John Burkey said.
