New Bacca Cafe offers healthier fare for lunch, breakfast

A new option for breakfast and lunch recently opened in Barrington.

Bacca Cafe offers customers a healthier alternative at 108 Barrington Commons Plaza, next to the post office.

Rod Kuzmanoski, who has worked as a chef in various kitchens for 20 years, owns the establishment with the assistance of his wife, Dragana.

The couple, originally from Macedonia, the former Yugoslavia, says everything at the restaurant is home made, from the soups to the salad dressings.

They offer traditional sandwiches and salads to more unusual items that have been popular so far on the menu. Crepes with asparagus, the BLT sandwich made with avocado, corn pancakes and pan-fried omelets have gone over well, Dragana said. She added that her husband doesn't believe in serving a lot of fried foods and uses zero trans-fat oils.

The Kuzmanoskis only use eggs that come from cage-free chickens.

Carry out service is also available at the non-smoking restaurant, which seats about 50 people.

The Kuzmanoskis reside in Huntley where Dragana works as a real estate agent and they are raising a 15-year-old son, Igor. The couple has been married for 20 years.

The restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday when only breakfast is served.

Construction kicks off: A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday to mark the start of construction at Renaissance Gardens, a private, state-of-the-art assisted living and skilled nursing residence that will be located on-site at Sedgebrook, a full-service retirement community in Lincolnshire.

The construction process will take about a year and a half, with Renaissance Gardens slated to open in the spring of 2009 with 96 assisted living apartments and 132 skilled nursing care beds.

Renaissance Gardens facilities, which can be found at retirement communities across the United States that, like Sedgebrook, are developed and managed by Erickson Retirement Communities, operate under the auspices of Erickson Health, an integrated wellness and health-care system for older adults.

In addition to offering technologically advanced medical care, the staff of Renaissance Gardens will focus on treating residents as individuals and celebrating their strengths. All rooms are private and services will be based in the "person-centered care" philosophy.
