Real lesson? Herald cannot be trusted
Thank you Dennis Depcik for your try at explaining what happened at Buffalo Grove High School, regarding cutting "God Bless America" from the weekly Homecoming activities.
As we all should know by now the song was cut because it did not fit into the theme of the week. I too was upset when I read the story … until I read the letter to the editor from a BGHS faculty member explaining the real facts.
But the letters continued, and the Shermans' house and car were egged.
A minister even felt compelled to write a letter apologizing for the vandalism.
Rob Sherman has turned the PR into a positive for his fellow atheists. Through all this, I did not see a retraction, follow-up story or apology on the front page of the Daily Herald for the story they created out of nothing.
Newspapers have become tabloid publications looking for sensationalism. If anything, this will be a good lesson for all high school students to learn that you cannot believe what you read in the newspapers.
It is unfortunate we no longer have a source for accurate, unbiased information.
