Learn how water quality is maintained at program

The McHenry County Defenders, in cooperation with the village of Algonquin, will offer an educational public program, "Water: Our Most Precious Resource" by Cindy Skrukrud, chairwoman of MCCD's Water Resources Protection Committee, and Clean Water Advocate for The Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter.

The program will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Beans & Books Coffee Shop, 215 S. Harrison St. in Algonquin.

While the summer rainstorms of 2007 may have left you thinking that there was too much water on flooded lawns and in basements, maintaining an adequate supply of quality water from underground aquifers is actually a growing concern in McHenry County.

The county is 100 percent dependent on its groundwater resources as a drinking water source.

This PowerPoint presentation from the Water Resources Protection Committee of the McHenry County Defenders will provide an opportunity to learn about both quantity and quality issues related to water in the county.

This program is free and open to the public. For details, visit Web site www.mccdistrict.org.
