Bean does work on veterans' issues

I am writing in response to the letter on Sept. 24 that unfairly criticized Rep. Melissa Bean's record on helping veterans. I am the commander of the veterans post at Friendship Village in Schaumburg and can honestly say she has helped our organization very much.

She has spoken here on veterans' affairs and gave us a U.S. flag that flew over the Capitol. She helped one of our WW II veterans get an award for his service that he was owed but had never received. She helped us start a letter-writing campaign to our overseas troops. Her office has helped veterans obtain Social Security military credits. She has supported many bills in Congress to help veterans. When I call her office, I get an immediate response. She co-hosted a veterans' open house and benefits fair on Oct. 1.

This is truly a representative who is pro-veteran.
