Marti Jones scoops at Capannari
Capannari Ice Cream and Radio Personality and ChicagoTraffic Reporter Marti Jones are teaming up to fight breast cancer. Jones will be the celebrity scooper with her famous Y-Me Cannoli Ice Cream from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Capannari's, 10 S. Pine St., Mount Prospect.
Marti Jones created her famous Cannoli Ice Cream last year for Food Network in a contest for best ice cream. Capannari Ice Cream has re-created it for this special event. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Y-Me of Illinois. Visit Y-Me.org or capannaris.com for more details.
Eat at Photos, fund Dollars for Scholars
Maine West Dollars for Scholars is continuing their Eat Around Town fundraiser for October. The featured restaurant is Photos Hot Dogs, 1706 E. Kensington, Mount Prospect. Photos will donate 20 percent to Dollars for Scholars for all customers who eat at their restaurant and say "Maine West Dollars for Scholars" from Monday, through Oct. 21. The proceeds will help fund scholarships for Maine West students.
Elk Grove hosts visitors from Sicily
Elk Grove Village Sister Cities will host 30 delegates from Termini Imerese, Sicily today through Oct. 21. The delegates will consist of business people, grammar school teachers, doctors, municipal authorities and mayors. The trip is designed to strengthen cultural exchanges and economic development, and expand the exchange of information in technology, medicine and education between the two cities.
Some of the highlights of their trip will include; a visit to District 59 schools and businesses throughout the community, a trip to downtown Chicago, an Elk Grove Village board meeting, and marching in Chicago's annual Columbus Day Parade. The visit ends with a dinner dance and raffle at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Avalon Banquets, 1905 E. Higgins Road, Elk Grove Village. Tickets are $80. Call (847) 734-9800.
