Give textile art a try starting Saturday

Textile artist Anita Luvera Mayer comes to The Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 6N158 Crane Road, St. Charles.

A respected and internationally recognized weaver and textile artist, she is a designer of contemporary clothing inspired by ethnic originals. In addition to the workshops and lectures, the Anacortes, Wash., resident presents throughout the U.S. and Canada and travels extensively to research ideas for her designs. Mayer believes that there should be something magical and unique about what is worn each day and wants to share this concept of clothing with others.

Mayer will be part of a series of workshops during the week called "Unleash the Tiger within You," a Creativity Extravaganza, Saturday through Oct. 20.

Mayer creates garments that celebrate the body and represents themes in women's lives.

During the week-long series of workshops, Mayer will be on hand to kick off the week with plans to encourage participants to experiment, play, share, create and expand one's horizons.

She will spend the week sharing her creative journey and guiding and encouraging participants along the path of discovery. A selection of her work will be on exhibit in the Kavanagh Gallery with an artist's reception scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 13. Her exhibited work coincides with the "Unleash the Tiger" week, and ends with the "2007 Uncommon Threads Fashion Show & Luncheon" on Oct. 21 at the Stonegate Conference and Banquet Centre in Hoffman Estates. She will be a featured presenter at the show.
