Driver in fatal crash turns himself in
The driver in the car crash that killed four people last month near Huntley has turned himself into police, Kane County sheriff's officials said Wednesday.
Mohammad Jaffrie, 24, of Crystal Lake is due in bond court this morning after turning himself in at the Kane County jail in Geneva, sheriff's officials said.
The Kane County state's attorney's office is expected to announce charges after Jaffrie's court appearance.
"They're going to put out information after bond call," sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said. "He's going to be facing several felony charges."
Jaffrie was the driver in the Sept. 8 crash that killed Ayush Joshi, 20, of Hoffman Estates; Henry Onwualu, 19, of Huntley; and brothers Zohair Husain, 18, of Huntley; and Kumail Husain, 20, of Algonquin.
Jaffrie was driving west on Dietrich Road between Brier Hill Road and Route 20 at 3:30 a.m. when the car left the roadway and hit a tree.
He was cited at the time for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving too fast for conditions, police had said.
Blood and urine samples taken from Jaffrie were sent to the state crime lab to determine if alcohol or drugs were in his system at the time of the crash, police had said. The results of those tests were not immediately available but had been part of the investigation, they said.
