Man charged in bank robberies

A Crystal Lake man was arrested in connection with two local bank robberies Monday.

Keith H. Hull, 44, of 593 Darlington Lane, Unit 33, was arrested outside of his residence Monday and charged with two counts of financial institution robbery, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of theft greater than $300, Crystal Lake police said.

Hull is accused of two recent bank robberies: CitiBank, 225 W. Virginia St. on Sept. 29 and LaSalle Bank, 99 Northwest Highway on Friday, police said. In both robberies, the suspect left the scene on a bicycle.

Crystal Lake police worked with the FBI and Crystal Lake Park District police to identify Hull. They also released surveillance camera photos to the media to help identify him.

Hull, both times, handed bank tellers a handwritten note that told them to surrender the money and that he was armed with an explosive device, police said.

Investigators located a suspicious device in Hill's residence during a search, which was later declared a fake by the Kane County Bomb Squad, police said.
