Support troops with more than stickers
Democrats David Obey of Wisconsin and Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania have proposed legislation which would truly allow us to support our troops and our nation in a meaningful way.
Our president has requested that all Americans sacrifice for our armed forces. Murtha and Obey propose that we all let our representatives and senators know that we, in order to truly become a part of our military efforts, will accept a 2-percent war surcharge to our federal income taxes.
For as long as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan last, we would help our troops get needed equipment, supplies and medical care via an income tax surcharge. The surcharge works by adding 2 percent to your income tax payment. (If your tax is $100, your surcharge would $2.
Since we all truly want to support our troops and their mission, then this is truly a meaningful way to help. "Support Our Troops" bumper stickers are good, but now you have a chance to really support the troops.
