Prairie Ridge 35, Huntley 6
The Prairie Ridge Wolves eliminated any playoff hopes for the Huntley Red Raiders and kept their undefeated season alive, defeating the Red Raiders 35-6 in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game Friday in Huntley.
Huntley coach Steve Graves knew just what his team was up against.
"I know this is going to sound silly, but the one thing that stands out for (Prairie Ridge) is everything," said Graves. "They have a great defense, they're coached extremely well, they kick the ball well, they are a solid team … I have no complaints about how our kids played. I thought we played to the best of out ability."
The Wolves (7-0, 3-0) out-played the Red Raiders (2-5, 1-2) nearly the whole game. On the opening play, Bryan Bradshaw completed a screen pass to Jeff Simak, who broke loose for a 56-yard touchdown to put the Wolves up quickly.
"We wanted to establish the passing game early and (Simak) just broke it open. I think that really took the wind out of (Huntley) right away," said Bradshaw of the opening play.
Later in the first quarter, the Wolves' defense recovered a fumble that eventually led to a 15-yard touchdown run from Kevin Keener that put PR up 14-0 after a Cullen Fahey extra point kick.
Prairie Ridge went up 21-0 in the second quarter after Bradshaw connected with Sam Campbell for a 77-yard touchdown pass.
"The line did a phenomenal job all game and we have good athletes with good hands that also helps," said Bradshaw.
Huntley got on the scoreboard in the second quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run from Jordan Neukirch that was earlier set up with a 51-yard kick return from George Shaw, but those would be the only 6 points the Raiders would score.
Bradshaw threw for his third touchdown of the game, connecting this time to Peter Shimp for 35 yards, and Todd Budy ran for a 22-yard touchdown in the second half that led to a 35-6 victory for the Wolves.
Bradshaw completed 10 of 15 passes for 245 yards, with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Wolves' offense.
