U-46 secretary faces drug charge

A 53-year-old secretary for Elgin Area School District U-46 was arrested Thursday after three stolen Ritalin tablets were found in her possession, Elgin police said.

Deborah J. Stirber of 264 James St., Burlington, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to a police report, Ritalin tablets had been stolen over the past two months from the nurse's office at Central School, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin.

Several people, including Stirber, were suspects in the theft of the anti-anxiety drug, police said.

Three of the tablets were found in Stirber's purse at 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

Stirber posted a $400 bond Friday and was given an Oct. 22 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
