Armed robbers escape with $200,000 in jewels

Lisle police are searching for at least a half-dozen men who robbed two people at knifepoint this morning and escaped with several containers of jewelry valued at roughly $200,000.

The incident occurred about 10:50 a.m. outside the Hyatt Hotel at 1400 Corporetum Drive, police said.

Investigators said two jewelry sales representatives were taking the containers of jewelry to their cars in the hotel's east-side parking lot when they were approached by two vehicles.

The sales people said six to eight men in their early 20s came out of the vehicles, displayed knives and stole the jewelry, described as primarily gold and diamonds. The jewels are contained in bags marked with either "JMP" or "FANA."

The robbers fled in a white, older model SUV and a dark, older model van or SUV.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lisle police at (630) 271-4200.
