Hudler's shootout goal lifts Wings over Ducks in opener

Jiri Hudler scored the game-winner, and Dominik Hasek made 3 saves in a shootout, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night in a rematch of the Western Conference finals.

Anaheim's Todd Bertuzzi scored and set up a go-ahead goal late in the second period for the defending Stanley Cup champions against his former team, but the Red Wings tied it at 2-2 early in the third.

Senators 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT): Dany Heatley scored his second goal of the game 2:57 into overtime to give visiting Ottawa a victory over Toronto. Just hours before the season opener for both teams, Heatley agreed to a new 6-year, $45 million deal with the Senators.

Canadiens 3, Hurricanes 2 (OT): Saku Koivu scored his second power-play goal of the game 1:05 into overtime to lift Montreal to a season-opening victory over host Carolina. Mark Streit also scored and Andrei Markov had 2 assists for the Canadiens, who scored all 3 goals on the power play.
