Grayslake Area Public Library notes

Registration is required for all programs, unless otherwise noted.

Black Belts, Tae Kwon Do: Members from the Yong Tae Kwon Do Center in Grayslake will demonstrate their skills at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. This program is for children ages 4 and older.

Book signing: The Friends of the Grayslake Area Public Library, in cooperation with the Grayslake Historical Society, will host a book signing at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Grayslake library.

Local historian and genealogist Charlotte K. Renehan will be debuting her book, "Images of Grayslake and Avon Township." Renehan used more than 220 vintage photos to help tell the story of the people and events that have shaped the character of Grayslake and the Avon Township area.

Books will be available for purchase. Proceeds will support the Grayslake Historical Society.

Dinosaurs of the Jurassic Age: Don Pfister works with Dinosaur Safaris at a paleontological dig site in the badlands of Wyoming.

At 7 p.m. Oct. 11, he'll talk about the American Jurassic period and how extinction may have happened. He'll bring dinosaur bones and discuss his experiences unearthing several major discoveries, including Stegosaurus Sarah.

Anime Club: The Anime Club will watch episodes of "Bleach," a funny and suspenseful action-adventure series from Japan, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12. This program is open to students in eighth grade and older. No registration is necessary.

Yoga for Two: Children ages 2 to 5 and an adult can discover the world of yoga at 10 a.m. Oct. 12.

Crafty Kids: Students in third grade and older can join in to make a craft at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 13.

Writer's Group: Connect with other writers at monthly information and critique meetings. Pick up copies of writings submitted for the next meeting at the Adult Reference Desk. The next meeting of the Writer's Group will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15.

Junior American Girls: Students in kindergarten through third grade can join in for a book discussion, including a craft from the time period, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Oct. 15.

Travel with Elderhostel: Discover the in-depth and behind-the-scenes learning adventures available through Elderhostel at 10:15 a.m. Oct. 16. Elderhostel Ambassador Roger Loeffler will describe the benefits and advantages of this educational travel organization for adults 55 and older.

Thursday Night Book Chat: Discuss "Before You Know Kindness" by Chris Bohjalian at 7 p.m. Oct. 18. Books are available for check out at the circulation desk.

LAN Party: The library will have a LAN party for teens in high school from 5 p.m. to midnight Oct. 19. Attendees must bring their own computers and game copies for PC gaming. Set up will start at 5 p.m. with gaming at 6 p.m. The library will supply the connecting cables, pizza, pop and snacks.

YouTube Video Project: Teens in high school can make a video highlighting the library's new teen space and submit it by Oct. 20 to be uploaded to YouTube and linked to the library's Web site. Read complete submission requirements on the Teen Services page of the Web site.

Halloween Hijinx: Mad Scientist Boris Von Puppenspiel and Frankie Monster will present a Halloween-themed marionette variety show at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 20. This is a free family performance, but tickets are required.
