Police: Crash 'very complicated' to reconstruct
A month after a car plowed into a group of people who'd gathered to watch Schaumburg's Septemberfest fireworks display, police say they're still actively investigating the incident.
"It's a very complicated crash scene," police Sgt. John Nebl said of the difficulties involved in reconstructing the Sept. 2 incident.
The accident reconstruction has taken much longer than the week initially estimated.
The crash initially sent seven people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A Ford Mustang with four teens inside drove into a group of eight people along Plum Grove Road and hit at least two trees on the parkway when it left the roadway at 9:33 p.m.
No charges have been filed as the complicated crash reconstruction continues, Nebl said.
Among the factors being looked at are the speed and trajectory of the car and any mechanical problems it may have had.
While there were no obvious indications of alcohol use, police are still waiting for lab results of a blood test taken of the driver, Nebl said.
Police have not released the names of the two males and two females in the vehicle or any of the injured on the sidewalk.
