Health lesson lands at Wheaton school

The whirl of the helicopter attracted all the students at Sandburg Elementary School's annual Health and Safety Fair in Wheaton.

The fair educated students in first to fifth grades about hygiene and safety. There were hands-on activities with tips covering topics such as dental health and hand-washing. A program called SAFE presented an anti-bullying station, where students learned about getting along with each other.

The school also set up a miniature emergency room inside the building, where the students made it seem more real by portraying victims and learning how to administer some medical care.

"The fifth-graders looked as if they had been beaten up," said Carol Tulley, organizer of the event.

The crowd favorite, however, remained the Air Angels helicopter. All of the students watched the helicopter land, and the fourth- and fifth- graders had the opportunity to check out the interior.
