Before and After School Club:ŒThe Hanover Park Park District's Before and After School Club (B/ASC) is a safe program for kids, featuring games, snacks, crafts, and more.
B/ASC is offered Monday through Friday, and participants can choose the days needed. The following schools are taking part: Horizon, Ontarioville, Laurel Hill, Hanover Highlands, Parkwood, and Greenbrook. B/ASC for Greenbrook is held at the school, with the rest held at the Ahlstrand Fieldhouse, 6900 Catalpa Road, Hanover Park.
For times and locations, call the park district at (630) 837-2468.
Kinder Klub:ŒThe Hanover Park Park District announces a new program created just for kindergartners -- Kinder Klub, or K2. K2 is only for half-day kindergartners, and is a safe place to go before or after school while parents are at work.
K2's staff will entertain with inside and outside arts and crafts, games and activities, sports and more. Lunch and juice will be provided, along with quiet time to do homework, which K2's staff will also help with.
Parents can choose the days of attendance. The park district vans will drop off and pick up children at school. Morning and afternoon sessions are available, depending on which session the child is in school.
For times and locations, call the park district at (630) 837-2468.
Henna Art workshop:ŒThe traditions, history, and designs of the ancient art of Mehndi, also known as Henna Body Art, will be covered Oct. 20 at the Hanover Park Park District, 1919 Walnut Ave. The workshop runs from 1 to 5 p.m.
Instructor Ayesha Ahmed is a professional henna artist. The class is suitable for mother and daughter, aunt and niece, or friends to enjoy together.
The registration deadline is Oct. 17, and the fee for park district residents is $65 per person. All supplies are included.
For more information, call Susan Matthews at (630) 837-2468.
Embracelet program:ŒDuring a recent meeting at the Hanover Park Park District's Community Center, 25 participants in the Hanover Park Park District's Senior Run-A-Bouts program received free Embracelets from representatives of Hanover Township.
Embracelets are emergency medical bracelets, which can be worn by seniors or anyone with a medical condition regardless of age. Listed inside is information for paramedics, police, or fire personnel in case of emergency, including the wearer's name, address, doctor's phone number, emergency contact, allergies, medical conditions, and medications.
Hanover Township Supervisor Michael E. Kelly began the program for the villages of Hanover Park, Streamwood, Bartlett and unincorporated Cook County in 1998, paying for the bracelets himself. Over 700 bracelets have been distributed to local residents.
For more information on the Embracelet program, call (630) 837-0301.
Party planning:ŒThe Hanover Park Park District can help coordinate children's birthday parties and special events. Two assigned hosts will plan and host a two-hour party from start to finish, entertain, serve food and dessert, and clean up. Each party has its own private room and guests are supervised at all times.
The park district provides the tableware, juice, balloons, group pictures and a party bag. The three different types of parties offered are "Crazy Games Party," "Sports 'n' More Party," and "Princess Parties." Custom parties are available upon request.
A two-week notice is required to reserve a party. For more information or to book a party, call recreation services supervisor Nicole Mantegna at (630) 837-2468, ext. 138.
Arson Tipster Award Program:ŒPublic playgrounds have been targeted recently by arsonists. An entire playground, worth tens of thousands of dollars, can be lost to the children of the community within a matter of minutes.
Other park amenities such as shelters have also been damaged or destroyed. As much as staff and local law enforcement officers try to prevent these incidents, it is sometimes local residents and park users who are the best sources of information.
The Hanover Park Park District has adopted the new "Arson Tipster Award Program," effective immediately. The program will be promoted through posters, fliers and press releases. The public is encouraged to call the designated hotline at (630) 837-2468, ext. 222, with any information related to an act of arson on park district property.
Should that information lead to the arrest of a perpetrator or a conspirator, that person will then be nominated for a cash reward up to $500. The Park District Risk Management Agency will administer the award program.
For more information, call (630) 837-2468.
